Hi,
I used vmware workstation 6.0.2.
In any case, I can run the VM also with the vmware player 2.0.2 on Windows Vista.

Would it be possible to build a version that can mount yaffs2 file systems? I tried but was unsuccessful, of course I am not an expert or even close. Maybe someone else could have better luck.

Hi neoobs,
to build the YAFFS2 in the linux kernel you can try to follow the steps below.

- download sources for the linux kernel and extract it in /usr/src/linux
- download YAFFS2 from ***URLs are hidden from guests, please register and login to view the hyperlink***
- extract the package contents in any directory (eg. /home/YAFFS2)
- run the patch-ker.sh using the following command: *./patch-ker.sh c /usr/src/linux*
- go to /usr/linux and compile the linux kernel as follows:

make menuconfig

The following options should be enabled in the configuration file.

· Enabling MTD driver

Select Device driver

Memory Technology Devices (MTD)
Enable - Memory Technology Device (MTD) support.
Enable - MTD partitioning support.
Enable - Direct char device access to MTD device.
Enable - Caching block device access to MTD device.

· Enabling NAND flash driver

Select Device driver

Memory Technology Devices (MTD)
NAND Flash Driver
Enable - NAND Device Support.
Enable – Support for NAND flash simulator.

Exit the menuconfig utility after saving the configuration file

make clean
make
make modules
make modules_install
make install

Finally:
1. Reboot the system.
2. insmod yaffs2.ko (from the YAFFS2 Source directory path).

I tried that but failed miserably somewhere. I will try again with a new linux version I am installing. Does it matter what distro I use? or kernel?

Also Would it be possible if I can't get it to work that someone that knows how and can, can build it then send me the .deb files (I believe that is in there) Or just tar up the kernel?

OK I did it all and actually got somewhere, imagine that.

But now I get stuck in two parts, How do I use that kernel? (in the boot menu I have my normal kernel and then my windows line but I don't see any for this new kernel.

Secondly, I can't find a yaffs2.ko file. and the yaffs.ko file isn't a module file.

Any help?
