Hi all,
I have just realized that the 0.9-beta Android SDK requires all the applications to be signed in order to work on the emulator.
I discovered this issue because the platform refuses to install my app when compiled in release mode. The strange thing is that everything works well without any specific action from my side when I compile my code in debug mode and I test it via Eclipse.

The possibility to install and run my application in debug mode let me suppose that it is possible to generate temporary digital certificates "on the fly" without going crazy  Is it correct ? How can I solve this issue in releasse mode ?

Thanks

OK, let me give an answer to myself...

I have found the appropriate instructions for the signature issue in the "Develop & Debug" chapter on Google's site:

Quote:
Signing in Eclipse/ADT
If you are developing in Eclipse and have set up Keytool as described above, signing in debug mode is enabled by default. When you run or debug your app, ADT signs the .apk for you and installs it on the emulator. No specific action on your part is needed, provided ADT has access to Keytool.

This was exactly my experience : everithing works transparently in debug mode.

Quote:
To compile your application in release mode, right-click the project in the Package pane and select Android Tools > Export Application Package.

This was the point... OK now I know...

Keep in mind also this important things:
Quote:
The important points to understand about signing Android applications are:
- All applications must be signed. The system will not install an application that is not signed.
- You can use self-signed certificates to sign your applications.
- No certificate authority is needed.
- The system tests a signer certificate's expiration date only at install time. If an application's signer certificate expires after the application is installed, the application will continue to function normally.
- You can use standard tools — Keytool and Jarsigner — to generate keys and sign your application .apk files.

Thanks Google for the "free authority" approach: mine is an hobby, not a professional activity and I definitely have not much money to waste...
