Which is the version of Linux kernel Android is based on ?

Hi all,
I was just wondering which is the version of the Linux kernel used by the Android platform: any information on this ?

A question about that was rised on a Google I/O 2008 session (you can find a forum thread collecting some discussions ***URLs are hidden from guests, please register and login to view the hyperlink***).

The presentl version of Android platform is based on Linux 2.6.xx kernel (likely 2.6.24). Several modifications of the kernel were made and, according to a Google's guy, the resulting work will be published together with the SDK, also pushing regular updates.
